B5 MK1 Trudge Boot

The B5 MK1 TRUDGE BOOT. OUR 100% MADE IN ENGLAND HERITAGE BOOT! 

When GHC was just an idea, we started to hunt for a manufacturer who wanted to collaborate with us on a project.

PROJECT ‘FOREVER BOOT‘. CODENAME: TRUDGE. 

We were looking for a premium, handmade heritage boot that could serve as a friend for life. We also wanted this boot to be British made. Tall order? Perhaps. 

After an uphill battle, we discovered William Lennon & Co. A fourth generation footwear manufacturer nestled in the heart of the Peak District. They are rightly proud of being England’s last heavy duty footwear manufacturer.

Unlike other manufacturers who we’d approached, William Lennon were a breath of fresh air. We were actually quite emotional when they said they’d work with us. 

TRUDGE WAS ACTIVATED. THE MISSION WAS AFOOT. 

Our first visit to their factory is something that we will always treasure. Greeted by the kind faces of the workers in the factory, the rich smell of leather and a warm homely atmosphere. We specified a prototype, shook hands and journeyed home. 

We chose to go with a design called the B5. A replica of the Boots used by our lads in the Trenches of ww1, from 1915 onwards. These Boots are built on the correct wooden 2181 square toe last, the premium leather is cut from knives found in the factory and the original design of the upper remains unchanged. 

But what else makes them special? Well brass wire. The soles are attached to the uppers using a 3 BUSM Rapid Standard brass wire screwing machine. There are only 4 of these machines left in the World. This is one of the oldest and toughest ways of producing a Boot or Shoe. Making the footwear almost impossible to destroy. 

We didn’t want to go over the top and change too much. But we did decide against the standard hobnails!

The B5 MK1 Trudge Boot is a rock solid premium leather boot. It really is that simple. It is unique and hand-crafted. This handmade British treasure will keep you grounded and you’ll love the support and comfort it provides. 

PROJECT FOREVER BOOT: MISSION SUCCESS 

Perhaps best suited to more leisurely outdoor pursuits , such as fishing, gardening, birdwatching or foraging. But also suitable for other outdoor adventures. 

Can you hike in them? We’ve found that they offer fantastic stability when out on a long walk. They are supportive, comfortable and have great grip. The leather breathes well and the roomy toe box is a blessing for your toes. Keep in mind though, this isn’t a synthetic hiking boot!  

The waxy commander wheatbuck suede is stunning and the patina it starts to develop after a few wears is something to behold. This is premium British leather and we love the burnished shine that is brought out after a clean. The leather uppers require little breaking in, the stacks of leather your feet rest on will though! 

The Trudge will slowly mold to your feet. The toe box is roomy and relaxed. The premium leather upper is strong, yet very supple. The MK1 Trudge is resoleable and we think that you’ll find them surprisingly comfortable. 

Sizing 

To measure your foot size at home, place a piece of paper on a hard floor, stand on it with your heel against a wall, trace the outline of both feet, and measure the length from your heel to the tip of your longest toe for each foot.

We would recommend taking the measurement without socks. If you find that your measurement is close to the length (central column of the table) or you plan to wear the boots with thick socks, we’d suggest going up a length. You can always remeasure in the socks to check. 

We have included a total footbed length (total internal measurement) so that you can determine how much ‘slippage’ you are comfortable with. Some people like a snug fit, other prefers a more relaxed fit.
