No, you aren’t seeing double. Thunor is almost identical to Jötunn. With two small differences.

Underneath the retro style, there is a modern waterproof membrane nestled between the leather upper and the full grain calf skin lining. 

 Rather than have your feet against a membrane, your feet are always next to leather. 

This boot is also a stitchdown hiking boot, unlike the Jötunn which has a Norwegian welt. 

Why this style?

Why introduce a design to the market, that is heavier than its modern counterparts, more expensive and has a long break in period? Well, I never did have much of a head for business! 

Truth be told, I don’t want to sell synthetic boots. I don’t want to contribute to landfill and I believe in slow fashion. I also believe strongly in supporting traditional skills and artisan businesses. It is my belief that this support, is a tangible pathway to some kind of actual sustainable future. Not an imagined one.

I love this aesthetic. These are beautiful boots. 

This design has real pedigree too. This is the Genesis of the modern hiking boot. It’s simple, tough and repairable. This design never ‘went away’ it was just waiting for people to return to it.

ON FEET

I was impressed by these the moment I took them out of the box. I couldn’t wait get out on the trail in them. But I decided to be sensible and spend some time wearing them around the house.

The first trip they made outside went perfectly. The boots felt light, they flexed well at the ball of the foot and the lateral stability kept me stable over rocky trails. Toe space felt perfect. 

I walked in streams, across wet meadow and I had no issues at all. I couldn’t believe how ‘trail ready’ they were after wearing them for such a small amount of time. 

The adjustable, gusseted bellowed tongue is a nice feature too. It feels a little strange at first but once you have it ‘set’ you are good to go. I was genuinely concerned about it and yet I forgot it was there! 

This was a five mile walk, nothing taxing and I felt like I could have easily done another five in them. Truth be told I wanted to but my dog is a little old now. 

I knew that I had to offer this boot. I was blown away by it. 

 Thunor is a tough boot. These are real hiking boots. Stable, strong and durable. Incredible ankle support, a comfortable fit thanks to the stitchdown construction and lightweight. This is how hiking boots should be. The premium Italian leather is beautiful. It’s practical too. Easy to clean and to look after. I know you’ll love it. 

MADE TO ORDER

Thunor is made to order. I believe that made to order sits well with my ethos of slow fashion and boots designed to last a lifetime. Your boots will be made by a small artisan team, shipped to me to be checked and then sent onto you. The process takes approximately 4 – 6 weeks. Trust me they are worth that little wait.

I can have half sizes manufactured and I can also check your measurements with the manufacturer. The sizing is in European sizing. Size 38 to 50.

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW CAREFULLY

To calculate your size, place your bare foot on a piece of paper and draw around it. Do this for both feet! Please do this standing up. Ask someone to help you! 

Keep the pen as vertical as possible. Then measure the outline of your heel to the furthest tip of your toes. Use the longest measurement.
