TERRAFORTE
A stitchdown boot for trekking and hunting.Â
Handcrafted, repairable and tough.Â
This boot is the result of a collaboration with Caltrek. A personal project between myself (the owner of GHC) and Matteo the owner of Caltrek. It’s been a joy to work with Caltrek. Seeing your idea come to life is very rewarding.
His team of Italian artisans manufacture this boot for me. I wanted to reintroduce hikers, trekkers and hunters, to the aesthetic of a traditional stitched boot. Sadly, there aren’t many around these days. Together we can change this.Â
Like all the footwear I offer, the TERRAFORTE has been field tested extensively. It’s also been tested in Italy! I believe that it’s performed extremely well. I’m sure you’ll love it.Â
It’s a shame that a lot of people have fallen out of love with the more traditional look. There’s something about a boot with real stitching that makes me want to be outdoors. The construction method and the leather make for a relaxed but secure fit.Â
The TERRAFORTE is a 8-inch traditional stitchdown hiking boot with just a dash of the 21st century. This boot is tough, can be repaired and I’m sure it will serve you well for many years.

WHO IS THIS BOOT FOR?
The TERRAFORTE is for those who love to be outdoors. It really is that simple. Whether you are trekking, hiking, hunting or working outdoors.Â
My goal was to minimize the unnecessary and offer a boot that was trail ready. The kind of boot you forget you have on.Â

During my testing, I was impressed by the grip, waterproofing and sense of security the boots offers. I also loved the somewhat relaxed fit of the boot.Â
I went with my usual 44 and the sizing works for me. Don’t be put off by EURO. sizing. Simply measure your feet following the advice below.Â
My first outing in them was a gentle 6-mile walk. I have a trail near HQ, where I like to do my preliminary tests. As with all new footwear there are those initial few steps, where you start to doubt your decisions! However, within a mile or so I was feeling confident in them. My initial impression was that these boots felt supportive, well-made and robust.Â
After numerous walks of between 4-6 miles I started to feel a lot more confident in them. By around 60 miles I sensed the boots were just about ‘broken in’. With approximately 120 miles on them, they were starting to feel like slippers. Albeit very robust slippers!Â
One of the most impressive features has been the waterproofing. Personally, I’ve been blown away by this. I’ve stood in streams, puddles and walked across wet meadows. I’ve always got home with dry feet. Every time. Making this a perfect boot for Britain! Caltrek say the boot is ‘75%’ waterproof. Perhaps this is under promising and over delivering!?

The rubber midsole will feel stiff at first. But this choice means better waterproofing. There’s always a trade off somewhere. It is however still perfectly flexible. It’s used a lot in Italian made stitchdown boots. The boot flexes well at the ball of the foot for comfort and offers incredible lateral stability. These are tough boots. If you like rocky trails, you’ll love these. The midsole takes away a lot of foot fatigue too. When I stop walking in these, I’m always amazed at how my feet feel. This midsole choice also allows for an easy resole/repair. So if in the future you wanted to customize your boots you can.Â
The Terraforte has really impressed me, and I think they will impress you too! I’m looking forward to many more outdoors adventures in them.Â
It was a real pleasure working with Caltrek on this collaboration. I’m always keen to support small producers and keep traditional boot making skills alive.Â
