Rogue RB5 boots

The Rogue RB5 Trans Africa Boot was developed for the Cape to Cairo Walk in 1998 and has been worn by Wilderness Trail Guides in the Kruger National Park since 2003. This is a serious boot and can be worn by men and women. 

This boot is a hard-working, premium, hand crafted, hiking and trail boot with 2mm full grain leather uppers and a full grain leather lining. Classic stitchdown construction, provides a comfortable fit and most importantly to us a repairable boot! 

They are quick and easy to get on and off thanks to the lacing system and speed hooks. They have a full length padded bellowed tongue to help keep out dirt and debris. 

The sole offers plenty of grip, much like the RB2 and if for some reason you didn’t like it, well thanks to the stitchdown construction you can have them resoled. 

This is the top of the range Rogue boot, available in their Oxblood leather. The leather is simply beautiful. Please be aware that the odd scuff and scratch on the leather isn’t uncommon, Africa can be Hell! Treatments usually cover these up anyway and it all adds to the character!

We’d recommend some Dubbin on these to aid the water resistance as they are designed for the hot and arid conditions of southern Africa. With that said, we’ve tested them against modern synthetic hiking boots and they have performed well. They also breathe extremely well and dry quickly. As with the RB2, if you are concerned you can always wear a waterproof sock. 

If you aren’t planning a trip to Kruger or Hwange, they’ll still look smart in the office and great down the pub. Trust us! These boots will be a loyal companion.

Quick to dry,  excellent breathability and comfort right out of the box. 

We found them to be fantastic in the summer on long hikes too. No surprise there, these are designed for the African bush!

Stitchdown hiking boots are quite rare these days and that’s a pity. The principal advantage of this construction method is the ability to resole the boot easily. You also get a roomier toe box and a more relaxed feel to the boot, without compromising on stability while on the trail. We love stitchdown boots at GHC!
