A NEW STANDARD IN DESERT BOOTS
DESERT SCOUT
I wanted to offer a boot for those warmer days and dryer climates. So why not a desert boot?Â
I didn’t want to offer another Chukka or a Vellie. I wanted something else. A boot that could take on tougher terrain if necessary, provide better protection and still be agile. I got in touch with Matteo the owner of Caltrek, we decided to experiment with an Italian military (inspired) desert boot.Â
The first thing I wanted to do was to make the boot stitchdown. IDEAL construction as it’s known in Italy. The stability this construction provides in my opinion is exceptional. It also makes a resole straight forward! We also changed the lacing system and did away with the waterproof membrane. Yes that’s right, I wanted the desert boot to be membrane free. I wanted to offer a boot that really would work in a hot climate.Â
ON FEET
As you probably know, every boot I sell has to go through field trials. When the prototype arrived me, I have to say I was excited. The weather had been largely dry. The trails I usually take had started to dry up. Perfect conditions for testing these boots!
The stitchdown construction offered a relaxed feel but it felt strong under foot. The lacing system allowed me to lock my heels in easily. Lacing up is quick too. As with all footwear made by Caltrek, SAMMI® lacing components are used. Some of the best in the industry. Â
The grip provided by the Vibram® sole is superb. The rigidity of the midsole provides excellent lateral stability. Despite the height of the boots, I felt a good amount of support around my ankles and my feet felt protected.Â
I’ve been able to see how the boots ‘behave’ in the wet too. My second outing was an early morning dog walk. Dew soaked grass was bound to soak these boots through. Still though, this was worth doing to get an indication of how long they would take to dry.Â
I like to test everything!
I decided to treat the leather parts of the suede upper with some dubbin and leave the Cordura® areas untreated. Although, in the future I may apply some fabric wax to these areas. If you’d like any advice on treating the boots, please get in touch info@ghcoutdoor.co.ukÂ
MADE TO ORDER
For now these boots are made to order, rest assured though that UK customers can still return/exchange the boots. This isn’t a problem!Â
The boots don’t take long to be made, allow up to 3-4 weeks if you are in the UK. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CUSTOMS CAN SOMETIMES CAUSE DELAYS. REST ASSURED THAT NO CHARGES ARE PASSED ONTO UK CUSTOMERS AND I’LL MONITOR YOUR ORDER EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!

Made to order is something I fundamentally believe in. It is beneficial to the producer and the retailer. I’m not interested in fast fashion. I believe in mindful consumption and offering quality made boots.Â
