ACTAEON
This boot is built on the same solid foundations as the TERRAFORTE and TRADURO.Â
A boot for those, who don’t always stick to the trail.
Hunting, shooting, working in the great outdoors? This one is for you.Â
This boot is built tough. Classic IDEAL workmanship (stitchdown to you and me), quality leather, incredible ankle support, phenomenal lateral stability and protection.
I asked Matteo at Caltrek if we could create another stitchdown masterpiece and I think we’ve done it again.Â

WHO IS THE ACTAEON FOR?
This is a boot for people who don’t want to be held back on their adventures. It’s a boot for people who expect their footwear to be tough and dependable. But it’s also for those who like that dash of tradition.Â
I’m going to be honest, I was pretty excited to test these. I’ve never worn a boot with this height (approx. 30cm). I was keen to find out how the height would feel.Â
As the boot is built on the same foundations as the TERRAFORTE/TRADURO, I knew exactly what to expect in terms of fit, comfort and support. The somewhat relaxed feel of those boots is something I’ve come to love. I couldn’t wait to break these in.Â
My first outing in them was my tried and tested 6 mile trail near GHC HQ. It’s a good route to test a new pair of boots out on. There’s woodland, rocky old paths, fields and a few streams for waterproof testing.Â
I was immediately struck by the sense of security the boot offered. I’ve never walked in boots as tall as these. The feeling underfoot was instantly recognisable as ‘Terrafortesque’. I knew this was going to go well and it did.Â
My usual route takes me past a local farm and through some very damp meadow areas. The grass that morning was still soaked in the morning dew, no issues with waterproofing here! I decided to cross a nearby field following a footpath and headed over to a local village.Â
I followed the footpath through the village and made my way towards a picturesque area of woodland. Woodland is my favourite place to walk. I have to say I loved the feeling of the boots in here. I found myself climbing over fallen trees, stepping over deep sunken tracks and crunching though undergrowth, without a problem. I decided to head of trail and cross a fallow field, to see if I could spot any Deer. After I’d crossed this field, I headed back through the woods and took an old farm track north of the village. Eventually, this ‘road’ gives way to a stone trail. This trail is uneven to say the very least, I was concerned about the risk of a blister at this point. I decided to stop and take the boots off. I then ‘reset’ my socks and laced up again. Fortunately, I was ok. Better to be safe than sorry! I took my time over this trail. After a steady two miles I found myself looking out across to where I had started my little journey.Â
As I stood and looked out across the local countryside, I couldn’t help but feel surprised at how relaxed my feet felt. They were also dry! The construction of the boot really shoulders a lot of the burden. I love this about IDEAL construction. The midsole works hard! The boot was already flexing well by this point and the lateral stability in combination with the boots height made me feel very secure and supported.Â
This is definitely a boot for those who live for being outdoors. I think if field sports or bush crafting is your thing, you’d be hard pressed to find something better.Â
As I journeyed back, I couldn’t resist climbing into a stream and seeing how good the waterproofing was. This has become my signature waterproofing test. No problems were encountered. I would say I was stood and walking in this stream for at least 3 minutes. I doubt (hope) that most people aren’t stood in above ankle depth water for this amount of time on trail. But, you never know!Â
I was incredibly impressed by the Actaeon and I think you will be too!Â
